Making No Assumptions
In the majority of cases, understanding your process is a huge benefit. In fact, that's why ARDI exists in the first place - to help people understand the systems they're working with.
But there are times when knowledge - and particularly assumptions - can actually get in the way of your potential.
This is why Machine Learning in general - and FirstSite in particular - can provide value where humans can't. They explore every avenue, even those that people with detailed process knowledge would never consider, all because they don't really understand what they're looking at.
Thanks to this, every now and then they can find a connection between seemingly unrelated pieces of information. Only something that makes no assumptions about your system and can think in a dozen dimensions at once could ever find the link.
The price you pay for that ability is that - particularly when you're first getting started - Machine Learning algorithms are idiots. They treat every single piece of information equally, so will often get distracted by irrelevant details.
